28 games tonight.
Mankato West at Mankato East
Oh boy. Here we go. Tonight’s tilt is a huge one. 3.6 miles separates these two rival high schools within the same city limits. You know what is even closer? The scores of their games from last year. West vs. East happened 3 times last season. East won all three of them including the section final. But each victory came by only 1 goal.
West is 3-1 so far this year. East is 3-0.
Two keys to victory tonight for West. Sunshine Langworthy is going to have to look to score goals tonight rather than being the playmaker. East will key on sophomore forward Molly Grundhoffer opening up opportunities for Langworthy. Secondly junior goalie Sarah Olsen will need to be better than her current .857 SV%. This is almost 3% lower than her career average.
The key to victory tonight for East? Keep shooting the puck. They are averaging almost 37 shots per game and 6 GPG. East’s Sydney Kanstrup, after only 10 regular season goals last year, already has 8 this year.
East 4. West 2.
Shakopee at Holy Family
Shakopee’s Paige McNeil ended Holy Family’s season last year in OT in the Section 2AA quarterfinals. Paige McNeil is back for the Sabers. But gone for Holy Family is Alex Pellicci. But no big deal. 9th grader Sedona Blair has stepped in and posted a 1.23 GAA and .946 SV% in 4 games.
Shakopee is 3-0 on the year. Holy Family is 3-1.
The key tonight for Shakopee is to find a way to keep scoring goals. Last year they only averaged 2.36 GPG and yet still found a way to win 14 games. This year they are averaging 4.00 GPG.
The key tonight for Holy Family? Same as Shakopee. Figure out a way to get pucks past the goaltender. Shakopee is only giving up 1.25 GPG so fat this year.
Goals are going to few and far between tonight and because of that I think it favors Holy Family.
HF 2. Shakopee 1.
That’s all I have time for today. What?! I know. Sorry. Say what like Lil Jon. It makes it more fun. Try it. Wwwhhhat?! Why didn’t you do it? Try it again. Wwwhhat?! See what I mean? More fun.
