November 19th Game Recap

Austin at Mankato East/Loyola

Just a reminder from the preview…Austin had given up 6 goals in their only game. Mankato East was averaging 6 goals for. It was a match made in heaven. So what happens? Exactly what we thought would happen! Mankato scores 6. Sydney Kanstrup had 3 of them.

Mankato East 6. Austin 4.

Holy Angels at Henry Sibley

Guess what? The Stars’ Bridget McGuire scored 3 goals. Guess what else? Holy Angels won. That is not a coincidence. Maybe she’s a reader of the blog?? For Holy Angels to win consistently Bridget will have to score goals consistently.

Holy Angels 4. Henry Sibley 1.

Anoka/SLP at Totino-Grace

Honestly, I thought this might get ugly. Some good goalie play by Totino’s Claire Schmaltz kept it respectable. Of the 4 Anoka players profiled in the preview 3 of them found their names in the box score- Symynkywicz has 2 assists. Albers had 1 goal. And Mashuga lit the lamp twice.

Anoka/SLP 4. Totino 1.

Lakeville South at Prior Lake

LVS continued their great play in their convincing win over Prior Lake. The Cougar’s Ryann Wright had just as many goals as she has Ns at the end of her first name. She also had 3 assists. Taylor Otremba gets the hatty and 2 helpers. Lindsay Maloney had 2 assists and Iona Welsch had 1 and 1.

LVS 6. Prior Lake 2.

Proctor/Hermantown at Hibbing/Chisholm

We figured this would be a close game giving P/H the one goal victory in the preview. That is exactly what we got. I was able to watch part of this game on a live stream by Up North Hockey. They did a nice job covering the game. Give them a follow on twitter @UpNorthHockey19. The Mirage’s Megan Madill scored the game winner with just 2:36 left in the game. They desperately needed that win.

P/H 2. H/C 1.

Rosemount at Lakeville North

Rosemount still has Whitney Tuttle although LVN did their best to erase her name from the box score. In doing so the Panthers gave themselves a chance in this game. The game was tied at 2s after 2. The Irish’s Ava Nygaard scored the game winner early in the third. Rosemount moves to 2-1 and LNV remains winless.

Rosemount 3. LVN 2.

Hill Murray at Breck

We had this one at 4-2 in favor of Breck in the preview. Nailed it. But what I wouldn’t have guessed is that Hill would’ve dominated two periods in the loss. It was all Breck in the first. But then the ice tilted the other way with Hill outshooting the Mustangs 33-16 over the last two frames. Breck’s Sarah Peterson was stellar in net saving 39 of 41. They might want to make her the full time starter.

Breck 4. Hill 2.

Wayzata at BSM

We figured this would be a close one. And it was with Wayazata’s Greta Branton scoring the game winner in OT. The OT goal was Greta’s third of the game. But it took a heckuva rally by BSM to get to OT. Finding themselves down 1-4 after 2 they scored 3 goals in a 3:38 stretch in the middle of the third to force the OT session. Mary Zavoral had 2 goals for the Red Knights.

Wayzata 5. BSM 4.

Notable Performances

Blaine’s Hailey Hansen made 30 saves in her shutout win over Rogers. Rogers outshot Blaine by a 2:1 margin.

Paige McNeil had the game winner for Shakopee in their 4-3 win over Burnsville.

9th grader Stella Retrum continued her hot start by scoring the lone goal in Maple Grove’s 1-0 win over Centennial.

Northern Lakes’ Kate Stephens saved 31 of 31 in their 5-0 win over Detroit Lakes.

Anna Seitz had 4 helpers and Kylie Baranzelli had 3 and 1 in Eveleth’s 6-1 win over North Shore.

Apple Valley beat Farmington. What is going on in Farmington?! Farmington is looking to get back on track after 2 losses in a row to start the season.

My new favorite player in girls high school hockey, Kennedy Lemke, saw 44 more shots last night for Prairie Center. She’s gotta be exhausted after just 6 games. If her teachers are reading this please put a moratorium on homework for her. She needs her rest.

Katelyn Roberts/Penn St. of CC had 1 and 3 in their 5-1win over New Prague.

Andover’s Peyton Hemp had 5 points. Jamie Nelson had 4 points. Sara Kaiser had 3 points. Madelynn Jurgensen had 2 points. And Josie Hemp had 1 point in the Huskies’ 10-1 over Elk River.

Owatonna is 3-0 and averging 8.33 GPG after beating Mankato West 8-2. Owatonna was barely .500 last year and only averaged 2.46 GPG.

Mahtomedi beat Lourdes 4-1 despite only having 10 shots on net. What?!
