….and we’re back! All of my interns had to go back to college and my assistants had the week off so I am a little behind! Only 16 games tonight. Here we go…
Luverne at Mankato West
Using Mankato East as the measuring stick means that this game should be a good one. Luverne played Mankato East to a 2-2 tie and Mankato West lost to East 2-3.
Luverne is 14-4-3 on the year and is led by two young studs in 8th grader Kamryn Van Batavia and 9th grader Reghan Bork with 36 and 30 points respectively.
Mankato West is 11-7-3 and is led by the top line of senior Lindsey Hays with 47 points, junior Sunshine Langworthy with 32 points, and freshman Molly Grundhoffer with 31 points.
Mankato can score but they also do not keep many pucks out of their net.
Luverne 4. Mankato West 3.
Rochester Lourdes at East Grand Forks
Lourdes is traveling over 400 miles to get to this game! Wow. This will be a great weekend of competition for them as they follow up tonight’s game with one against Warroad tomorrow. So the miles will be well worth it. Junior Emma Schmitz and senior Clara Billings lead offensively with 43 and 33 respectively. Sophomore Maggie Hanzel has done a great job holding down the blue line AND contributing offensively with 22 points.
East Grand Forks has 7 losses on the year but 4 of them have come at the hands of Warroad and Roseau. In their losses they have been outscored 31-4. They have some nice wins versus Alexandria and Fergus Falls.
If Lourdes scores the first goal I think that will get them the W.
Lourdes 5. EGF 3.
Eden Prairie at Brainerd
Eden Prairie has put its midseason 4 game losing streak in the rear view mirror by winning 3 in a row which includes a 3-2 victory over Wayzata in their last game.
Brainerd is 18-2-1 on the year and has won 12 games in a row. Their opponents combined record over those 12 wins? 149-57-2.
This will be a really good game and I think Brainerd’s win streak ends tonight.
EP 4. Brainerd 3.
Breck at Blake
This is a great rivalry that hasn’t lost any of its intensity since Blake moved to Class AA.
Breck just beat SPU 7-1 which was the first of 5 road games to end the year. After tonight’s game against Blake they close the year traveling to Holy Family, Maple Grove, and Eden Prairie. That is a tough finish that will make sure they are ready for the post season.
Blake just beat Edina 2-1 to avenge their early season loss to the Hornets. They have had a week off to prepare for tonight’s game so I do not expect a let down off of the Edina win. Blake has the best top line in the state and I don’t imagine Coach Reid separates those three for even a period like he did in the last time these two played where Blake found themselves down 0-2 before he put Delianides/Burton/Daniel back together and they scored 3 unanswered goals to win 3-2. I’m pretty sure that was a run-on sentence but that’s okay.
Blake 5. Breck 2.
