Saturday, January 5th Game Recap

Faribault at Austin

Faribault scored 9 goals. If you assumed the state’s second leading goal scorer Olivia Williamson had a bunch of them you’d be wrong. Going into this game Olivia had scored almost 33% of the team’s goals. But of the 9 goals scored Olivia only had one. In fact, only one player had multiple goals and that was Ashley Rost who had 2. 9 goals. 8 goal scorers. That is pretty impressive. Faribault improves to 14-4.

Faribault 9. Austin 2.

Roseau at East Grand Forks

As mentioned in the preview the last time these two met Roseau trounced EGF 9 rip. Although EGF is not as good as Roseau they are not 9 goals worse. I figured a 2 goal game in the preview and that is what we got. I figured 4-2 but real life was 2-0. EGF can thank goalie Megan Birkholz for keeping it close. She made 40 saves on 42 shots.

Roseau 2. EGF 0.

Breck at Andover

Well, Breck will be working on some penalty kill this week in practice. Of the 4 goals they gave up 3 of them came when they were a skater down including Gabby Krause’s OT game winner. That’s a frustrating way to lose.

Andover’s Paige Anderson and Jamie Nelson each had 1 and 1. Sadie Lindsay had 2 goals, Allison Qualley had 1 and 1, and Olivia Mobley had 2 assists for the Mustangs.

Blaine at Edina

Blaine wins! Blaine wins! On a shorty with 1:11 to play in regulation! Crazy finish to this game. Blaine found themselves up 2-1 after two but then down 3-4 late in the third. Lauren Driste tied it up for the Bengals with 4:39 to play before Ramsey Parent scored the shorty for the win.

Ramsey Parent finished with 1 and 3 and Hailey Hansen made 42 saves in the upset win.

Blaine 5. Edina 4.

Elk River at Hill Murray

Kelsey King got her 3 goals as predicted in the preview but Elk River got one more from Jenna Korinek. That was just enough to force OT on Hill Murray’s home ice. Elk River even had a 4-3 lead after two after being down 0-2 after 1. Hill’s Kennedy Morris had the lone third period goal to give us the extra frame. Hill Murray’s Haylee Blinkhorn won it in OT with just 6 ticks left on the clock.

Hilly Murray 5. Elk River 4.

Shakopee at Wayzata

Wayzata has played 15 games. They have won 13 of them. Their two losses are to Blake and Edina. Wayzata, Edina, and Blake are all in Section 6AA. Anyone of them could win the state title yet only 1 will get the opportunity. That’s unfortunate.

Wayzata 5. Shakopee 1.

Notable Performances

Olivia Haag had 1 and 3 in BSM’s 6-1 win over Hopkins/Park.

Sydney Rydel had 1 goal and 3 assysts in Forest Lake’s 4-1 win over Roseville.

Minnetonka’s Brynn Dulac had the 23 save shutout vs. Eden Prairie.

The Boland sisters combined for 7 points in Northfield’s 5-1 win over Mankato West. I wonder if the Boland parents have to pay their girls for points. That would be expensive.

Emma Schmitz had 4 assists and Clara Billings had the hatty for Lourdes in their 6-1 win over Totino-Grace.

Tristana Tatur scored a shorty in OT to give Maple Grove the win over Farmington.

Lily Delianides had 5 points and Addie Burton 4 in Blake’s 7-4 win over SPU.

Genevieve Hendrickson, Kaitlyn Kotlowski, and Hannah Corneliusen each had 4 points in Warroad’s 8-1 win over Detroit Lakes.

Lilie Ramirez had 1 and 3 in South St. Paul’s 5-1 win over Simley.
