Friday, January 4th Game Recap

Blake at Breck

With Audrey Wethington gone with Team USA at the World Juniors in Japan there was an attempt to balance the lines by separating Izzy Daniel, Addie Burton, and Lily Delianides. That experiment lasted one period because the Bears found themselves down 0-2 to Breck at the first intermission. Shots were 10-5 for Breck after 1. Coach Reid went back to the line of Daniel/Burton/Delianides to start the second. Addie Burton scored at 3:04 of the second to get within one. Izzy Daniel tied the game up at 13:35 of the third and Addie Burton added her second of the game and the game winner with just 2:02 to play to cap off the exciting come from behind victory. After getting that line back together Blake outshot Breck 36-12.

Blake 3. Breck 2.

Hill Murray at Centennial

It took 2 1/3 periods for either team to get a goal. It was deadlocked at 0s until Allison Pitlick gave Centennial the 1-0 lead at the 5:32 mark of the third. With the way the Mackenna Stoterau has been playing it looked as that might be enough. But Hill Murray’s Katie Kaufman had other ideas. She tied it up at 9:59 before Alex Belde scored the unassisted game winner at 13:41.

Hill Murray 2. Centennial 1.

Delano/Rockford at Mound Westonka

Something just occurred to me as I am writing this. If I am not mistaken the co-op of Delano and Westonka won the 12A State Championship around 2013 or 2014. If that is the case then former teammates on the 12A State Championship would’ve been facing off against each other in Friday night’s game. That is kind of a cool story line that goes along with this game.

Anyway, Mound Westonka’s Emily Schepers scored just 0:34 into the game and it looked like it might be a tough night for Delano. But the Tigers’ Emily Olson was able to put one by Taylor Smith while on the PP to even it at 1s late in the first. Delano was able to take the lead at 0:36 of the second on a Anna Keranen goal. They would hold that lead into the second intermission. Mound’s Lauren Burris was able to tie it up at the 4:04 mark before Anna Kivisto put Delano back in the lead with 7:50 to go in regulation. Mound Westonka’s Grace Peterson scored with 2:32 to play to force OT. Mound Westonka held the shot advantage 4-1 in the OT period but neither team was able to bury one.

Delano 3. Mound 3.
