Saturday, December 1st Game Preview- Let’ s Make a Deal Edition

Is it December tomorrow already?! Craziness.  We profile games that have girls that don’t have a college deal done YET but certainly are good enough to have one. This will be an ongoing series…so Mom and Dad just relax if your daughter is not in this one!  Kidding.  Kinda.

Lakeville South at Cretin Derham Hall

Let’s start with Lakeville South’s Lindsay Maloney.  Lindsay had a big night last night which is indicative of her potential.  Lindsay was second on the team last year in scoring as a sophomore with 24 regular season points. She was instrumental in helping Lakeville South get to the State Tournament where they gave eventual runner-up Centennial a run for their money in the opening game.  As an 02 birth year Lindsay spent the fall playing for the U16 Elite Grey team in the Elite League which is currently ranked as the top U16 Tier 1 team on myhockeyrankings.com. Her greatest strengths are her speed and motor which make her a not just a great 5v5 player but also a great special teamer and forechecker.

Cretin Derham Hall’s Cece Zeigler is a steady and smart defenseman.  She first burst onto the scene as the YHH U10 Player of the Year.  She has good size, a great stick, and makes a really good first pass.  As an 01 birth year junior she played this past fall for the U19 Elite Red in the Elite League where she was one of the anchors of a very strong D group.

Ultimately the end result of this game will come down to goaltending.  CDH has Kaelie Smith who has been very good.

CDH 4.  Lakeville South 2.

Warroad at Mounds View

Warroad is really good.  And their best forward is 02 junior Hannah Corneliusen.  We first saw Hannah in St. Cloud at one of the USA Hockey camps.  She was arguably the best forward on the team which included Audrey Wethington. Audrey is committed to the University of Minnesota. Hannah has 10 goals on the year so far and scored 35 goals in the regular season last year as a sophomore for the State runner-up.

Mounds View is having a tough start to the year. One bright spot as been the play of sophomore forward Audrey Jackson. The team has 9 goals on the year. Audrey has 5 of them.  We first saw her in St. Cloud at the USA Hockey 15 National Camp.  She has good size, good hands, good speed, and a great shot.  Her skating is a little unorthodox so that might throw people when they initially see her play.  Audrey spent the fall playing for the U16 Elite Sky in the Elite League.

Warroad 6.  Mounds View 2.

Andover at Centennial

Andover is currently ranked #1 in Class AA.  Their best overall defenseman is junior captain Kennedy Little.  As an 02 birth year Kennedy spent the fall playing on the U16 Elite Grey team in the Elite League.  She doesn’t have great size but that doesn’t affect her ability to play the game.  She has great speed, is strong on her stick, and can battle in the corners. A very smart player that adds a tremendous amount of value with her grit and tenacity.

Centennial forward Allison Pitlick had some big shoes to fill this year with the loss of Hughes and Linser.  Although the team is off to a slow start she had been very good with 4 goals and 3 assists in 5 games. She had 18 points last year during the regular season as a sophomore for the State Runner-up Cougars. She added two goals in three games in the State Tournament. She has good size and is really strong.  Hard to knock off the puck. Think bull in a china shop but with better hands!

Andover continues to roll.

Andover 6.  Centennial 1.
