New Ulm at Minnesota River
Okay, maybe I was a little aggressive with my 10-0 prediction but it is hard to go against logic. Real life was 5-1 for New Ulm. It was all New Ulm over the first two periods. Score going into the third was 5-0 and shots were 34-8. Minnesota River got a goal :30 seconds into the final frame which gave them a little life and allowed them to win the period and end on a positive note.
For New Ulm, junior Molly Scheid had 1 and 1, senior Elle Cooper had 1 and 1, sophomore McKenna Strong had 1 and 1, and junior Alexa Steffi had 1 and 1.
I said yesterday that I knew nothing about any of the teams that played Monday night. That is not entirely true. In 2014 the New Ulm/Sleepy Eye coop, being a small association, only fielded a B team at the 15 level which seemed perfectly logical. Like I said, it is hard to go against logic. But, the team rolled through the B level that year and Minnesota Hockey forced them to play at the A level in 2015. Many of the girls that were on the team those years are on the current high school roster.
Congrats to New Ulm Head Coach Kristen Faber on getting career win #100!!
Windom at Mankato East
I had Mankato East winning by at least 6. They won by 7. I figured leading scorers Madison Davis and Bri Adams would have their way with Windom. They didn’t. Only 3 points between the two. Hannah Rigdon was the star of the night with 2 and 1. Evie Johnson had 2 goals. Sydney Kanstrup and Claire Johnson each had 1 and 1. Defenseman Bri Adams did her best Paul Coffey impersonation and had 2 assists.
Final was 7-0 for Mankato East.
