Luverne at Mankato West
Like a Twitter follower pointed out Mankato West did a pretty good job at keeping the puck out of their own net. They held Luverne, who had been averaging 30 shots on net per game over 21 games, to just 22 and just 2 in the first period. Sophomore goalie Sarah Olsen saved 20 of 22 to lead West to the victory. Lindsay Hays, Hannah Wieland, and Molly Grundhoffer each had 1 and 1.

Rochester Lourdes at East Grand Forks
In the preview I mentioned that I thought it was important for Lourdes to get the first goal. In 10 of 13 wins EGF has scored the first goal. Of their 7 losses they had give up the first goal in 6 of them. My point being that they don’t give up a ton of leads and it’s even less likely they come back from a deficit. Lourdes got the first goal. EGF was able to tie the game up twice before Lourdes was able to create a little separation with Clara Billings scored a shorty in the second to make it 4-2.
Billings had 4 points in the game for Lourdes. Unfortunately, she had just as many penalties!
Lourdes 6. EGF 4.
EP at Brainerd
In the preview I predicted that Brainerd’s 12 game win streak would come to an end. EP has been playing really good hockey lately and I figured there was no reason for that to change. EP jumped out to a very early lead when Nora Wagner scored just 1:17 into the game. EP was able to extend the lead 2-0 on Sydney Langseth goal going into the first intermission. Brainerd showed some resolve in the second scoring 2 goals to even it up. Claire Kuipers scored the game winner for EP at the 4:18 mark of the third before Carries Byrnes scored the empty netter to seal it.
EP 4. Brainerd 2.
Breck at Blake
Blake was able to get 53 shots to the net. 7 of them went in. Typically Blake’s scoring is concentrated but in this one they had 11 players register points. If the not-so-usual suspects can keep that up it will bode well for the Bears in the gauntlet that is Section 6AA.
Blake 7. Breck 3.
