Thursday, December 20th Game Preview

Dustin Byfuglien games tonight. Here we go…

Minnesota River at New Ulm

New Ulm averages 4.15 goals per game. Minnesota River has a 4.80 GAA. New Ulm’s Ashtyn Wiltscheck has 13 goals. She will get her chances tonight.

New Ulm 6. Minnesota River 2.

Wayzata at Champlin Park/Coon Rapids

Wayzata’s Sloane Matthews just announced her verbal commitment to the Clarkson Golden Trojans…Golden Knights I mean. For those keeping score at home that makes 3 current Trojans committed to Clarkson. The Wiz, Branton, and now Matthews.

CP/CR doesn’t score a lot of goals. But they don’t give many up either. That recipe has given them a 6-3-2 record so far. They’ve won 5 in a row while giving up only two goals over those 5 games. And they are unbeaten in their last 7. But that momentum ends tonight.

By the way, this game is outdoors. Pretty cool.

Wayzata 4. CP/CR 1.

Centennial at Edina

Here is the rematch of last year’s State Championship game which Edina won 2-1. Edina has reloaded this year. Centennial has not. CC Bowlby and Tella Jungels have found some chemistry as new linemates. Ellie Strittmater has shut out Wayzata and Forest Lake in consecutive games.

Edina 5. Centennial 1.

Duluth Marshall at Grand Rapids/Greenway

DM is looking to bounce back from their loss to Benilde. Unfortnately, they run up against Peart Vekich & Co. GR/G’s Maddie Drotts had 19 assists in 12 games. She keeps that up they are going to make her a named partner in the firm!

GR/G 4. DM 2.

Eden Prairie at Maple Grove

Combined record of 15-2-3. Each team with one loss. EP’s loss was to Blake. Maple Grove’s loss was to Andover by one goal. I would say that Maple Grove’s schedule has been tougher to this point. I think that gives them to edge tonight.

Maple Grove 4. Eden Prairie 2.

East Grand Forks at Roseau

East Grand Forks recently had a really nice wins over Fergus Falls and TRF. But sandwiched in between those two nice wins was a lopsided loss to Warroad. So which EGF team shows up tonight? Keep an eye on freshmen CJ Mack and Kendra Emery over the next couple years. They are players.

Roseau is 9-2 with their losses coming to Breck and Brainerd. Kayla Santl has 11 and 11 in 11. Can she get a goal and assist tonight to make it 12 and 12 in 12?

Roseau 5. EGF 3.

Shakopee at Rosemount

Shakopee has managed to have a winning record at 6-5 despite having a -5 goal differential in 11 games. That is not sustainable. Paige McNeil has been the only consistent source of offense. Who is going to step up?

Rosemount has been streaky. They won their first two games of the year. Then followed that up with 6 consecutive losses. And now are back on a winning streak having beat Prior Lake and Lakeville South in their last two.

I think this one ends in a low scoring tie. Let’s go with 2-2.

Alexandria at Brainerd/Little Falls

These two played each other earlier in the year in Alexandria. It was all Brainerd. Shots and scoreboard favored Brainerd 39-22 and the final score was 6-0.

Alexandria has played two really good games in a row. A weird loss to Mound Westonka 0-6 in which they outshot MW by a 3:1 margin. And an OT win over a good Fergus Falls team while outshooting them 42-16.

This one is closer than the first time they played.

Brainerd 4. Alexandria 3.
